Notes
great model for faster innovation through data-driven testing
got this book when attending a talk by Eric Ries
lots of principles that can be reviewed again in more detail
but overall, I follow a lot of these ideas already
don't just build stuff and see what happens
it's not whether you can build it, it's whether you should build it
run experiments with a Minimum Viable Product
look for validated learning, figuring out what the customer wants
don't survey or ask people what they want, run actual tests
then figure out whether to pivot the business model
don't look at gross metrics
are you improving the conversion rates - cohort analysis
what's your engine of growth - sticky, paid, or viral
get through the Build/Measure/Lean cycle quickly
the runway is how many pivots you have left until you run out of money
work in small batches - agile development
the Five Whys - get to the root cause of the problem
types of pivots: zoom-in, zoom-out, customer segment, customer need,
platform, business architecture (B2B or B2C), value capture (monetization)
engine of growth, channel (distribution method), technology
in general, try to test early to see if you're building in the right direction
otherwise you could be working efficiently and working hard on the wrong thing |
