but i actually prefer to see tons of business lessons packed in
the first real lesson is on page 25
the result of juggling elephants is that no one is thrilled with the performance
because it's impossible to do
the ringmaster has the greatest impact on the success of the circus
he focuses attention on each ring at the right time
the ringmaster cannot be in all three rings at once
give full attention to the ring you're in, then move quickly to the next one
have a plan or program for how you want things to go
then review each act just before you bring them into the ring
have quality acts in all three rings
ring 1 - work and professional life
ring 2 - relationships, family, friends, children
ring 3 - self, health, fitness, reading, self improvement, play
always be thinking:
which ring should i be in right now?
what act should i be focusing on?
there is no shortage of acts for the circus
but every act must serve a purpose
don't choose an act based on emotion, laziness, convenience, or pressure from others
choose a quality act that serves a specific purpose in the overall circus
do you have the resources available to make a new act successful?
also line up your acts to create the most effective performance
schedule major acts at different times, not all at once
the relationship between the ringmaster and the performers affects the success
every member is important and has to be fully engaged on the right acts
constantly offer positive reinforcement for good behavior
and give constructive feedback for negative behavior
people have needs that extend way beyond the obvious ones
sometimes people need to laugh, relax, and not take themselves so seriously
intermission is an essential part of creating a better performance
also take time to think about how you can improve your circus
get outside viewpoints from your audience to find out what they think
don't just work in your life, work on it to make it better
