Notes

good book, much better than Digital Fortress
not as successful as The Da Vinci Code because it's less high-concept
but it's a well-written thriller
it has all the qualities of a classic thriller structure
the prologue sets up an interesting mystery
the stakes keep rising, and the deception becomes bigger and bigger
there is a great twist about the identity of the bad guy
the various subplots all intertwine smoothly
the climax has tons of fast-paced action and drama
the denouement comes quickly after, wrapping up everything neatly
the ending has a nice romantic conclusion after the plot is resolved
there is some additional humor from Corky's character
the whole idea of NASA vs. private business vs. intelligence community is nice
there are a lot of interesting issues to ponder about space exploration
it's a bit long for me, 558 pages total
but the story moves fairly quickly, and all the events fit together
i would have tried to cut out some stuff to make it shorter
but overall, it's a very good book

owned this book, but it was damaged in the flood so threw it out
