Notes

starts off slow, does it really need to be 520 pages?
a lot of the prose seems awkward, the story feels like it has holes
the whole situation that Nick finds himself in seems cliche
but the accuracy of the police and corporate stuff is interesting
lots of short chapters, seems to make sense for the modern thriller
starting to get more interesting towards the middle, but it's still slow
now comes the twists as we near the end, this is what makes it good
overall, the bulk of the story has conflict but the stakes are low
that's why i feel like the pace is slower through most of the book
the church scene about "no hiding place" overemphasizes the theme
the ending is pretty good, much faster pace and good plot resolution
this is the key, a good ending can make the reader say the book is good
