Notes
these stories are probably better if you read the related novels first
also a lot of them have twists, but it's too much reading one after another
"James Penney's New Identity" by Lee Child - eh, not that interesting to me
"Operation Northwoods" by James Grippando - interesting setup but dull ending
"Epitaph" by J.A. Konrath - i like this one, more hard boiled style, set in Chicago
"The Face in the Window" by Heather Graham - decent, nice twists
"Empathy" by James Siegel - really good twist, nice ending tied to the beginning
"Kowalski's in Love" by James Rollins - not bad, good action, decent pace
"The Hunt for Dmitri" by Gayle Lynds - decent spy story, related to other novels
"Disfigured" by Michael and Daniel Palmer - decent, mini story with a wrap-up
"The Abelard Sanction" by David Morrell - average, not super tense
"Falling" by Chris Mooney - eh, average, ending was kinda slow
"Success of a Mission" by Dennis Lynds - good early pace, slower ending
"The Portal" by John Lescroart and M.J. Rose - interesting, ended too quickly
"The Double Dealer" by David Liss - lots of twists, i don't like the old prose style
"Dirty Weather" by Gregg Hurwitz - good intro, but expected the twist at the end
"Spirit Walker" by David Dun - average, too much going on for a short story
"At the Drop of a Hat" by Denise Hamilton - kinda crazy, some artsy prose
"The Other Side of the Mirror" by Eric Van Lustbader - psychological, nice ending
"Man Catch" by Christopher Rice - good early twist but very confusing prose
"Goodnight, Sweet Mother" by Alex Kava - average, weak ending twist
"Sacrificial Lion" by Grand Blackwood - not bad, interesting storyline
"Interlude at Duane's" by F. Paul Wilson - my favorite, lots of action, good setting
"The Powder Monkey" by Ted Bell - not bad, historical setting but good action
"Surviving Toronto" by M. Diane Vogt - eh, the plot doesn't feel smooth to me
"Assassins" by Christopher Reich - no action, short scene and kinda boring
"The Athens Solution" by Brad Thor - too much explanation, good guys lose at end
"Diplomatic Constraints" by Raelynn Hillhouse - average, feels a bit incomplete
"Kill Zone" by Robert Liparulo - not bad, mostly psychological, anti-climactic twist
"The Devils' Due" by Steve Berry - average, about Bin Laden and his faked death
"The Tuesday Club" by Katherine Neville - Ben Franklin, too much explanation
"Gone Fishing" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child - not bad, ending is decent |
