Notes

published in 1991 when he was living in his 10,000 sq ft castle
he lost 30 lbs in under 30 days, reached a million dollar net worth in under a year
1) we want to change the way we feel, and 2) we want to change our actions
begin to focus right now on solutions rather than problems
your past does not equal your future
people say they've tried millions of ways to succeed
but the truth is they have maybe try ten ways, not even a hundred
decide what's most important to you and then take massive action each day
personal power means being persistent in taking action
Colonel Sanders was rejected 1,009 times over 2 years
Walt Disney was turned down 302 times before he got financing from a bank
even if your life looks terrible right now, there are many things to be thankful for
no problem has to affect your entire life, even if it looks like it right now
nurture seeds you plant and you'll reap the rewards of seemingly fruitless efforts
massive, consistent action with pure persistence and a sense of flexibility is key
we all have problems and frustrations, but it's how we deal with our setbacks
God's delays and not God's denials, learn from your setbacks
success is the result of good judgment
good judgement is the result of experience
experience is often the result of bad judgment
the power of decision is the power of change
it's our decisions, not the conditions of our lives, that determine our destiny
a real decision is cutting off any possibility except what you've committed to
1) decide what you want
2) take action
3) notice whether it's working or not
4) adjust your approach and be flexible
God never closes a door without opening another one, look for new opportunities
it is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped
decide every day: 1) what to focus on, 2) what things mean, and 3) what to do
people with multiple personalities can actually change their eye color sometimes
a belief is simply a feeling a certainty about what something means
any belief can be true or not, you need to choose the beliefs that empower you
the fastest way to change how you feel is to change what you focus on
whatever you focus on, you move toward
when you change your focus, you may not immediately change direction
ask the right questions that will give you useful answers
1) what is great about this problem?
2) what is not perfect yet?
3) what am i willing to do to make it the way i want it?
4) what am i willing to stop doing to make it the way i want it?
5) how can i enjoy the process while i do what is necessary to improve?
morning power questions:
1) what am i happy about in my life right now? or what could i be happy about?
2) excited about? 3) proud of? 4) grateful for? 5) enjoying? 6) committed to?
7) who do i love? who loves me?
evening power questions:
1) what have i given today? 2) what did i learn today?
3) how has today added to the quality of my life?
emotion is created by motion, use your physical movements to feel better
how we talk to ourselves controls the way we think, how we feel and what we do
set a goal, then take immediate and massive action
Michael Jordan didn't make his high school varsity basketball team
the harder you prepare, the luckier you seem to get
the reason we set goals is to give our lives focus and move us in the right direction
achieving the goal is not as important as the person you become in pursuit of it
dedicate yourself to CANI - constant and neverending improvement
it doesn't mean you do everything perfectly or that everything changes instantly
you use chunking to achieve subgoals, celebrate each small step along the way
what would you do if you knew you could not fail? be specific and detailed
before something happens in the world, it must first happen in your mind
write down why you absolutely must achieve your goals
don't hang on to any negative thoughts, feelings, questions, words or metaphors
when you catch yourself focusing on negatives, immediately ask better questions
don't beat yourself up if you dwell on something negative, just change it quickly
find someone else with worse problems than you and help them a little bit
Tony Robbins was 35 when he wrote this book
