this song was written in a classic new wave style originally back in 1994. The inspiration at the time was Anything Box's "Our Dreams". It was remixed later to the current form (keeping the original melodies but improving the production and arrangement). The lyrics were inspired by an organization I watched change over many years, the Asian American Association at the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign. The original track is on the album, One, and it's also available through mp3.com on the CD, Uncovered (where the title is actually "Nothing Changes (the AAA @ UIUC mix)".
Nothing Changes
Date: 08/27/1994
When I look out across the room
All I see are darkened faces
Motionless, expressionless
No one wants to break the silence
See what has become
Of hopes and dreams and fantasies
See what you have done
Everyone here is to blame
But oh look around you, can't you see
Nothing ever changes
Look at you and please don't tell me
Nothing changes
I know I am not the only one
To see what's come and gone
And those who left will soon forget
All the things they could've done
To brighten up another's day
For just one moment if they stayed
And waited less for things to change
Take a chance and make some waves
And oh look around you, can't you see
Nothing ever changes
Look at you and please don't tell me
Nothing changes
Once upon a time
They said that things would be so grand
And all the plans they made were laid to waste
Under younger generations hands
And oh look around you, can't you see
Nothing ever changes
Look at you and please don't tell me
Nothing changes
