A simple quiet song on the guitar, using the upper frets of the bass strings, it gave this hollow sound when mixed with open strings and inspired me to write a farewell song to those who have gone ahead... My friends thought from the first lines that it was a song about drugs -- until I got to the last line of the first verse. This is the last track on side 1 of Mercurial: songs from my living room.
Goodbye
by Blue Audio

You never thought it'd come to this
Ignorance in a state of bliss
Not knowing which way is down
You're so high you can't see the ground
You never turned back
From the day you were born
'Til the day you died (and I cried)

Sometimes, you talk to me
And I don't know what you're saying
These words you bring
Sometimes I think I'm just hearing things
But I can't lose hope
I've got to believe
That you're on the road to peace
(You're on the road to peace)

I've wondered many times
What God would take your life
From you (and from me)
Sometimes it's so hard to believe
On the day you passed away
I cursed the world that made me say
Goodbye... goodbye
