The Secret

In the backwoods you hid the goods
And I stood watching as they disappeared
They asked us to come down
But we couldn't see the ground

And in the darkness we started to fade
But you jumped out unafraid
But I don't want the chance for glory
If it always ends in defeat

There is a secret we hide inside
We nourish between us and it grows
It keeps us together like nothing else could
But if we could forget it, you know that we would
We keep it a secret for no other reason
Than to protect ourselves from betrayal and treason

We are just a couple of friends
We'll be together until the end
Sharing a secret inside
Between us there's nothing to hide
And I will always be true
As long as I'm with you
You can always depend on me
Now's the water turned muddy
The river's turned bloody
And everyone knows that it's time to go home
Words that were spoken
And promises broken
We can no longer repair all the damage been done

The time that's been wasted
The blood that's been tasted
Maybe someday we will somehow forget
The room is white but the blood is red
We're losing sight of who's wrong and right
And who's alive and who is dead

We are just a couple of friends
We'll be together until the end
Sharing a secret inside
Between us there's nothing to hide
And I will always be true
As long as I'm with you
You can always depend on me
On a highway of fire, a river of dreams
A room full of angels and a child that screams
A house of sorrows in a land of lost souls
With you bag of hopes but a head of worry
An eye for pain and the body's remains
Just an animal of nature with a heart of steel
The winds of change and the clouds of doom
A storm of chaos in an empty white room
And what do you see?
And how do you feel?

We are just a couple of friends
We'll be together until the end
Sharing a secret inside
Between us there's nothing to hide
And I will always be true
As long as I'm with you
You can always depend on me
And in my anger words were spoken
Truth escaped and hearts were broken
And we looked below us and there was a hole
I clung to you but you let me go...
