How do I download movies?
You cannot download any movies from this site.
The purpose of the DivX Database is to provide an easy method
for members to organize their personal listings of movies and
tv shows. The advantage to using this site is that it will
automatically link to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), and
you get free access to all of the other member features like
online blackjack, tetris, instant messaging, weblogs and more!
How do I trade movies with other members?
In general, members are just using this site to list
their CDs, since not many people run servers. But you can try
messaging another user and asking them. Make sure you are looking
at the right listing, each member has their own personal list.
If you then click on the username, it will take you to their
member info page. There are two links on this page, one will send
an email to the user, and the other will send an online message.
The online message will popup in a window the next time that user
logs in to the site. Note that email addresses are never shown for
security purposes, but you can send any user an email using the form
provided. Usually you need to offer something to trade with the
other person.
Can you add a new format to the menu?
Sure, just leave me a message online and tell me what
you would like added. My username is 'blahdio'. Also feel free
to email me anytime with any feature requests that you would like.
How do I delete a movie or tv show from my list?
While you are viewing your list, click on the number in
the first column to edit any entry. You can change any of the fields
on the page, and at the bottom there is a "Delete" button to delete
the entry completely. Alternatively, you can click the link that
says "Switch to Edit Page" and set the command to "Delete all selected
entries" then click the checkbox to delete multiple entries at once.
How do I add new entries?
Make sure you are logged in to the site and viewing your
list, then click on the "Add New Entries" link on the right. You can
then enter up to 5 new movies or tv shows to add. When you click on
the button to "Verify Input", all of the titles will be searched on
IMDb and the year of release, total running time, and IMDb number
will automatically be displayed. In some cases, multiple matches may
be found and a menu will be shown so that you can pick from the list.
If you don't see the correct movie or tv show listed, try typing in
fewer words in the title. You can also search IMDb directly using the
box at the upper right (which will open in a new window).
How do I copy an entry from another member?
If you are getting something from another member on the
site, rather than retyping the information you can simply enter their
username and part of the title in the boxes at the bottom of the
"Add New Entries" page. This will search their list and if a unique
match is found, it will automatically copy the entry over to your
listing.
How do I edit entries? What are notes for?
Click on the number in the first column to edit any
entry in your list. You can then change any of the fields shown.
The last field contains notes, these can be anything you want to
write, such as subtitles, alternate languages, original source or
whatever you want to remember. These notes will then popup when
you hover the mouse over that entry in your list.
What is "Min"? Why is the runtime zero?
The column labeled "Min" is the total running time of a
movie, which is retrieved from the IMDb page automatically when you
add a new entry. "Min" is short for the runtime in minutes. You
can update the value manually by editing an entry (clicking on the
number in the first column). There is an additional link on the
edit page to fetch the runtime from IMDb. This uses the current
IMDB number for that entry, so make sure it is correct.
What is "S"? What is the storage code for?
The storage code allows you to specify up to a 3-letter
code. This is your personal system which you can use, for example,
to type in a spindle number, a CD book code, or whatever you choose.
You can use this to quickly find the CD again later. This field
will not be copied from or to other people, since it only applies
to your system of storage. If you need to set the storage code on
multiple entries, click on the link that says "Switch to Edit Page"
and follow the instructions there.
What do all the terms mean, like "telecine" and
"workprint" and "interlaced"?
For a complete list of terms with descriptions and
helpful information, please see the
DivX and VCD Terminology
page.
How do I list episodes or sub-titles?
If you would like to add detailed information for a
particular title, simply edit the entry (by clicking on the number
in the first column), then type in html code in the "Title" box.
You can put <br> to make a new line, <i> and </i>
to italicize certain text, or change the font size with something
like <font size=-4>. Email me if you have any questions or
requests for new features!
What is the DivX Wish List?
The wish list allows you to store movies or tv shows
that you are planning to get. You can also link to other members
on the site and add them as your friends. If they have any of the
entries on your list, you can see their name on your list. They
can also leave messages for you on particular entries. If you have
general requests, you can add a text note to your wish list. Finally,
if you get one of the entries on your list, you can edit it and select
your friend's name to copy their entry to your DivX Database.
